Garmin (GRMN) is issuing a recall of 1.25 million units of personal navigation because of the risk of fires caused by overheated batteries, the company announced Wednesday. Almost 800,000 of the affected devices were sold in the United States, he said.
The products subject to recall are nĂ¼vi personal navigation devices (PND) and less than ten cases of overheating have been reported which caused no damage, Garmin has taken the responsibility to remind the elements, according to Chloe Albanesius more about PC Mag.
Garmin has established a website – www.garmin.com/nuvibatterypcbrecall – to help consumers determine if their unit is affected. The company urged consumers not to attempt to remove or service the battery of their own. Instead, he asked them to return the units assigned directly to designated areas.
In his statement, Garmin said he did not expect to remember to take a toll on his results, noting that the battery supplier has agreed to share the cost of replacement batteries and other costs recall program.
Personal navigation device sales of about half of total revenue from Garmin in the last quarter, Reuters reported. The recall could affect future sales, which are already in steep decline because of the increasing popularity of browsing, smartphones.
Shares of Garmin were down slightly at $ 26.50 each in late morning trade on Wall Street. The stock is down nearly 14% so far this year.
